A Multicultural City
The city situated atop the Carmel Mountains, overlooking the Haifa Bay and the Mediterranean Sea, is home to a multitude of different religions and cultures, some of which we'll get to see today.
The Bahai Gardens are iconic, and are closely associated with the city of Haifa, so of course we'll get to see them from both above, and from below.
But we start this tour differently than most of our tours...since Haifa is such a unique city, only fitting that we start in a more unique sort of fashion.
Haifa is special not only because of the cultural diversity within the city, but also because it's a city full of nature. We start the tour off on a hike through one of the dry riverbeds in the city, where we meet Father Cornelius of the Carmelite Order who shows us around the ruins and sends us off to his Church at the top of the city.
As we continue our hike, we see other aspects of life in Haifa, and we get to see a very unique mosque, belonging to a little known branch of Muslims called the Ahmadiyya. Israel is the only place in the Middle East where they can practice their religion and beliefs freely, and their mosque in Haifa is a center for the religion.
Once we finish our hike we get to see the Haifa Port, the Bahai Gardens, and the Templar Colony. We'll get to see the copper buildings still left here in Haifa, and find out what they have to do with World War II, and what they're doing here.
And we'll wrap up our tour in the marketplace area of Haifa called Wadi Nisnas, and talk a bit about the different events that take place there.
