Living the Land
In 1909, during the second wave of immigration into Israel, there were different forms of communities being created throughout the region. During this time, Tel Aviv was established, the first Jewish city, and another type of community was established, the kibbutz.
A kibbutz is an agricultural community based on Communist ideals, where everyone takes care of the community, and in return, the community takes care of its members. How does this work? And more importantly, does this still work today? That's just one topic we'll cover on our tour.
Have you heard of "children's homes"? This is one of the inventions of the kibbutz movement. Since the children are a part of the community, and the individual needs to do their share within the community, all the children lived together in these homes, with a caretaker always available. This is where they lived, learned, ate, and slept. They'd see their parents for 2 or so hours a day in the afternoon, after school and before dinner. What where they thinking? When did this stop? Find out on our tour.
All this, and so much more...meet Naomi Perlman, one of the remaining elders of the Kibbutz Barkai, and hear her story during our tour of the kibbutz.
How do I book a Virtual Tour?
- In order to NOT pay the VAT 17% tax that is applicable to Israeli citizens, when filling out payment information, please include either the name and address of the organization which you are ordering for, or your passport number in the "something you want to say" box. This exempts you from the VAT and makes the tour 17% cheaper for you than it would be otherwise.
- Once name and address/passport number are ready and easily accessible, click here for the payment link, fill in information, and click to pay.
- Once payment and necessary information is received, Rotem will email you to schedule the tour date and time of your tour
